Choosing the Treatment That's Right for You
There are a number of treatments for BPH. One or more may be chosen based on how much your symptoms affect your daily life. Keep in mind that BPH is not cancer.

Treatment Options

 Behavioral Changes

  • Diet Change (alter liquid intake, reduce caffeine, salt and alcohol)
  • Evaluate Medications (over-the-counter and prescription medications can effect the bladder and prostate gland)
  • Change Bathroom Practices (double-voiding, relaxation, urinating less frequently)

 Medications

  • Alpha-Blockers (helps relax prostate and ease urination)
  • 5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitors (inhibits hormones that cause prostate growth)
  • Anticholinergics (help relax bladder muscles)

 Procedures

  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
  • Transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP)
  • Laser Prostectomy
