Understanding Your Test Results
Our physicians and advanced practice providers value their professional relationship with you
and want to ensure you receive appropriate, timely care.
Under the 21 st Century CURES Act, Congress now requires test results, such as laboratory tests
and imaging scan results, be released as soon as they are available. This means you may have
access to see test results even before your healthcare provider has had an opportunity to
review them.
Urology San Antonio’s physicians and advanced practice providers are committed to providing
you with clear explanations of your results and guidance tailored to your medical history and
current treatment plan. We strongly advise against relying on internet sources or social media
to interpret test results or change your treatment plan.
We also believe the best person to counsel you on any test result is the provider, such as your
physician, with whom you have established an on-going professional relationship.
Since results may arrive at any time of the day or night, we discourage you from calling the on-
call urologist to get an explanation or to ask a question about your specific care. You will be
contacted should any change in your current care plan be needed by your provider once he or
she reviews the result and reviews your medical chart. In most cases, these discussions can
occur during a scheduled follow-up appointment.
If any “critical” lab value is reported which might require immediate intervention, you will be
contacted by a physician or advanced practice provider when they are notified.
We value the professional relationship we have with you and want to ensure you get
appropriate care at the appropriate time. Thank you for entrusting us to provide that care to
you.
